阿彌陀佛是佛教中西方極樂世界的教主，源自梵語Amitabha，也稱無量壽佛或無量光明佛。阿彌陀佛原為世自在王佛的法藏比丘，發願建立一個完美的佛國，立下四十八誓願，最終成佛。他以無盡的願力救度眾生，消減業障，念其名號可在臨終時獲得佛的引導，往生極樂淨土。
根據《無量壽經》，法藏比丘立下三大願，若得佛，眾生至心信樂，欲生淨土，十念不生者不取正覺。只要誠心念佛，必能往生極樂。
