被視為五路財神之首，因其身膚黃色，故稱為黃財神。
能使一切眾生脱離一切貧困、災難，增長一切善法、財富，富饒自在。黃財神曾經發願：庇護所有貧苦眾生，令他們在修行途中不因資糧匱乏而退失菩提心，助益一切有情。持黃財神法者，需發無上菩提心（上求佛道，下度眾生），勤行佈施，廣結善緣，萬勿貪慳，心誠如一。
黃財神左手持吐寶鼠，由其口中吐出各種珍寶，被視為財富的化身，象徵著源源不斷的財運。為大家增添智慧、吸引財富的能力，不被生活所逼，可安心向道，特賜予行者財利豐足。
